  4. I think it was really unfair that Davey Richards did not get most outstanding wrestler for 2010 for Wrestling Observer newsletter awards. He had atleast 4 ALMOST 5 star matches against 1. KENTA 2. Danielson 3. Shingo(my MOTY) 4. Austin Aries; besides so many other great matches against so other wrestlers in PWG, ROH and DGUSA. The only person who I found agreed with me is Eric Santamaria of Wrestling Roundtable. What are your views Will?

    ReplyDelete
  5. On my ballot I actually had Davey Richards as #2 behind KENTA (Danielson was #3). It should be noted that my main exposure to Richards this year was through DGUSA and ROH's TV show as I didn't follow ROH DVD releases as closely as I have in years past. KENTA/Nakajima was easily my favorite series of matches and KENTA's tag work with Taiji Ishimori I liked more than Richards's tag work with Eddie Edwards. But I could easily understand Richards being #1 and wouldn't have beena bit suprised to see him take the award.

  6. I'm kind of confused by these days. Why does Meltzer have them rated at the day they were filmed instead of the day they aired? He usually always goes with the date a match aired as opposed to the day it was taped. You never seem him rate a Smackdown match with a date from the Tuesday it was recorded on.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Why do you mean by "have them rated"? The person who does this site puts those dates on the matches; it's not coming direct from Meltzer like that. Which I get. Smackdown! aires three days after it was taped. These matches air two months after wards. I think it's worth putting the original date when it that's much time.

I get what you're saying but it's nothing Meltzer is doing.

And the old Japanese ratings from the actual Observers are WAY MORE confusing that this in terms of figuring out when things are taped and when they aired. Which I've figured out when doing the PuroRatings blog.

    ReplyDelete
  10. That wasn't Dragon Gate and it wasn't rated. He doesn't rate ROH DVDs anymore (he used to mainly rate BIG matches).

    ReplyDelete
  11. I know That dave meltzer gave the Mercury Rising 6 man tag team main event a ****3/4 But I dont know how he rated the other matches if anyone can tell me that would be great

    Thanks in advance.

  18. Bryan's review of the iPPV:

Arik Cannon vs. Chuck Taylor vs. Ricochet vs. Johnny Gargano NR (audio & video problems)
    Rick Swan vs. Homicide **1/2
Austin Aries vs. Masato Yoshino **1/4
Jon Moxley vs. Jimmy Jacobs (I Quit Match) ****
Osirian Portal vs. Brodie Lee & Akebono "Infinite stars"
YAMATO & Akira Tozawa vs. Genki Horiguchi & CIMA ***1/2
    BxB Hulk vs. SHINGO ***

    ReplyDelete
  19. any respect i had for Bryan's ratings may have just gone down the toilet. These ratings are laughable. Aries/Yoshino and Hulk/Shingo are heavily underrated. Moxley/Jacobs is a tad over.

    ReplyDelete
  20. This won't help matters.

    Meltzer on the iPPV:
    Dragon Gate Bushido iPPV
Chuck Taylor vs. Ricochet vs. Johnny Gargano vs. Arik Cannon ***1/4
    Homicide vs. Rich Swann **1/2
Masato Yoshino vs. Austin Aries **1/2
Jimmy Jacobs vs. Jon Moxley (I Quit Match) ****
Brodie Lee & Akebono vs. The Osirian Portal "Tough to rate this one. I felt like I should have hated it but I loved it."
YAMATO & Akira Tozawa vs. Genki Horiguchi & CIMA ***3/4
    BxB Hulk vs. SHINGO ***

Bryan also did the Untouchable show this week:
Mike Quackenbush vs. Akira Tozawa vs. BxB Hulk ***1/2
    SHINGO vs. Dragon Kid ****
Jimmy Jacobs vs. Jon Moxley (Street Fight) ***3/4
Rich Swann vs. Drake Younger vs. Chuck Taylor vs. Johnny Gargano ***1/4
CIMA & Ricochet vs. Naruki Doi & Masato Yoshino ****1/4

  21. i can let yoshino/aries slide some what as it was a heavily technical based match that was paced to be a 30 min match that seemed to end before it got going at like the 18 minute mark, but the mainevent rating of *** is just hard to fathom. It wasn't overkill like some dragon gate matches so i dont know what seemed to be the issue. Maybe its just weight of expectation and failure to deliver to them harmed some ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Did Meltzer rate Untouchable too or only Bryan did it?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Gate of destiny ratings?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Wasn't rated. He never does ratings for simply Dragon Gate, just Dragon Gate USA.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh sorry i was sure it was a DGUSA show^^

    ReplyDelete
  26. woh! i cant believe how low the ratings for the iPPV. Obviously the star ratings are arbitrary but I'm almost tempted to rewatch the main matches to see if I overrated Aries/Yoshino and Hulk/Shingo and underrated Jacobs/Moxley

  27. Freedom Fight PPV review is up for free on the site:

    http://www.f4wonline.com/content/view/18981/

    Quick ratings:
Jimmy Jacobs vs. Arik Cannon ***1/4
Homicide & BxB Hulk vs. Akira Tozawa & Jon Moxley ***1/4
    SHINGO vs. CIMA ***1/2
Rick Swann, Chuck Taylor & Johnny Gargano vs. Genki Horiguchi, Austin Aries & Ricochet ***1/2
    YAMATO vs. Masato Yoshino ***3/4

    ReplyDelete
  28. Bryan reviewed the 1/28 one. I think Dave mentioned that he hoped that have a review in the next issue (these shows were the same weekend as the Strikeforce show which Meltzer covered live and the Rumble).

Akira Tozawa vs. Sami Callihan ***
    Jigsaw vs. Jon Moxley **1/4
    BxB Hulk vs. YAMATO ***3/4
Jimmy Jacobs vs. Brodie Lee ***1/4
Chuck Taylor & Johnny Gargano vs. Ricochet & Naruki Doi ***1/2
Austin Aries vs. Rich Swann *1/2
Dragon Kid & CIMA vs. Pac & Masato Yoshino ***1/4

  29. "5/8/10 Pac/Naruki Doi vs. Mike Quackenbush/Jigsaw ****"

Is this a typo? According to profightdb.com the match received ***3/4.

  30. does that site use the observer's ratings?

also did meltzer end up checking out the ippvs

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yes, they use Meltzer's ratings, I'm not sure if Meltzer watched the ippvs.

    ReplyDelete
  32. They're from the Observer but not Meltzer's.

To explain: the ratings from that page are from the 5/17/10 Observer. Those are from a very basic live report that Meltzer ran in the Observer. The ratings listed on this site are from the 7/12/10 Observer when the PPV aired and have far more details (more in line with how Meltzer's reviews are usually written). Hence, the ratings on this site are actually Meltzer's although both sets ran in the Observer.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ahh, thanks for clarifying.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Meltzer's ratings for United We Stand (taped 1/30/11):
A.R. Fox vs. Cheech Hernandez *1/4
Akira Tozawa vs. BxB Hulk ****1/4
Jon Moxley vs. Homicide (Street Fight Match) *1/2
CIMA, Naruki Doi, Ricochet & Dragon Kid vs. Jimmy Jacobs, Austin Aries, YAMATO & & Sami Callihan ***1/2
PAC & Masato Yoshino vs. Johnny Gargano & Chuck Taylor ***1/2

    ReplyDelete
  35. hmm, i guess the Tozawa/Hulk MOTY talks was the typical people live overrating a match as the rating is below what the hype suggested. And am i the only one noticing that Metlzer has clearly gotten sick of the Dragon Gate style as he is clearly rating those big man tags less than he used to. Hell he rated the dragon gate 6 man from Supercard of Honor ***** stars but he clearly seems sick of the no selling fast paced style. About time if you ask me.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Totally agree with the previous comments, the trios match in 2006 was no way a 5 stars- no selling at all and to make matters worse the guy who take the mayor of the punishment (dragon kid) is the one that scores the pin, almost Hogan-like comeback!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Did he take a bunch of moves and then go straight into the finish? No. Hence, it's hyperbole to call it "Hogan-like". And pretty silly.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Bryan's ratings for United We Stand:
AR Fox vs. Cheech Hernandez *1/2
Akira Tozawa vs. BxB Hulk ****1/4
Jon Moxley vs. Homicide (Street Fight Match) NR "Whatever this was, it didn't work."
Austin Aries, YAMATO, Jimmy Jacobs & Sami Callahan vs. Dragon Kid, CIMA & Naruki Doi & Ricochet ***3/4
Chuck Taylor & Johnny Gargano vs. PAC & Masato Yoshino ***1/4

    ReplyDelete
  39. Two ratings by Meltzer from the iPPV:

4/2/11 Pac vs. Akira Tozawa "at least ****"
4/2/11 Yamato vs. Austin Aries "just North of ****"

    ReplyDelete
  40. What's better just north of four or atleast four lol

In fairness I thought the Yamato match was closer to ****1/2. it was atleast as good as taker/hhh. Tozawa/PAC little spotty for me but a lot less then I expected it to be.

    ReplyDelete
  41. any Fearless ippv ratings?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Which show was Fearless? As in what were the top two matches? I don't recall seeing that one reviewed in the Observer. I ask though because I can't keep any of the DGUSA shows' names straight.

    Uprising PPV ratings:

Sami Callihan vs. Jon Davis vs. Caleb Konley vs. Pinkie Sanchez vs. Scott Reed vs. Flip Kendrick vs. Louis Lyndon vs. Alex Colon ***1/2
Brodie Lee vs. Tony Nese ***1/4
Susumu Yokosuka vs. Austin Aries **3/4
CIMA vs. Johnny Gargano vs. Masato Yoshino vs. YAMATO NR? ("It was all good but the crowd wasn’t that hot for a lot of it."
Masaaki Mochizuki vs. Arik Cannon **
Akira Tozawa vs. A.R. Fox ***1/4
Ricochet vs. Rick Swann vs. PAC ***1/2

  43. Did he rate Enter the Dragon 2012?

  45. Let me give you a list of guys Leni would be better off with:

    Kenny McKormick
    Jonny Quest
    Kenshiro of Hokuto No Ken
    JoJo and his bizarre adventures
    Captain Commando
    Karate Kat

My personal pick of Johnny Bravo

And if you must really hook Leni up with someone obese, E. Honda!

That whole "Chaz like" tells me that he is a pathetic ignorant loser. With Leni's IQ, she needs somebody smart to take care of her, and Chaz sure as hell ain't it!

Now can you please post my opinion to that author, and see if he'll post from you or not?
