  1. Taker's Wrestlemania career would have been the best after Michaels (well he is easily the greatest at Mania) if every second year he did not have to wrestle big bodied wrestlers like Kane, Mark Henry, Big Bossman, A-Train, Giant Gonsalves, etc. The only great match he had at Mania with a big man was against Batista at WM 23; which speaks volumes about Batista that even though he often s***s as a in ring performer he is way better than most of the other big wrestlers like Kane, Mark Henry and co.

  2. Both Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 25 and 26 truly should have been given five-stars. I get the impression Dave Meltzer just refuses to give any WWE match five-stars ever again if they didn't get the rating. In retrospect they are better matches than Michaels/Razor Ramon (which did deserve the rating as well mind you)and deserved the rating as much as any five-star match.

But the question remains how WWE will follow up with The Undertaker's next 'Mania match. They better not make him fight another big guy, to say it would be a letdown after his matches against HBK as well as hist matches against Edge and Batista would be an understatement. It would be an shameful.

And hopefully the WWE won't ever end the streak. After Michaels didn't do it, twice, in matches of those caliber, it was made more official than ever that ending it would be a mistake. Undertaker should be one of the few wrestlers who wins his retirement match. And the streak should still be intact when he does.

  3. If I had any faith that the WWE could sustain any push, I'd want someone coming up to break the streak. I can't see me having that faith anytime soon.

  4. There are only 4 people in America that has what it takes to end the streak:

    RIC FLAIR
    REY MYSTERIO
    KURT ANGLE &
    DANIEL BRYAN!

  5. I'm a huge Ric Flair mark but him ending the streak would be seriously the stupidest booking in recent years. I'd take Jumbo's ghost over him.

  6. "The streak" is WWE's most important investment. It WILL be cashed in when WWE choose a young rising superstar of the iconic marketing potential comparable to Hulk Hogan or the Rock or Austin to become the next big thing in sports entertainment. Shawn Michaels breaking "the streak" would have been a silly booking, as Michaels was at the end of his career and offers the WWE operations very little value.

If "the streak" is ever broken, it will be a young star on the rise with charisma, the look and the marketing value. Of the current crop of talent on the WWE's roster, I would choose John Morrison. He is similar in looks, style, size, personality and athletic ability to Michaels. It has been proven that Taker works better with smaller guys like Michaels and a Taker v Morrison match would be off the chain!! It would be like Taker vs a young Shawn Michaels!

Morrison just needs a better finisher and if he comes up with one, he has everything else to be the "next big thing".

    2. How's this for an unintentionally ironic prediction: "(The streak) WILL be cashed in when WWE choose a rising superstar....to become the NEXT BIG THING in sports Entertainment."

When Brock Lesnar came into the WWE in 2002 he was billed as the NEXT BIG THING by Paul Heyman. He ended the streak in 2014, four years after that guy posted that. Too funny :)

  10. Kurt Angle v Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart v Shawn Michaels, and Bret Hart v Owen Hart are all five stars in my eyes> Otherwise looks good, except Goldberg v Brock Lesnar should be -*****, seeing as how both were amazing wrestlers who put on a crap performance.

Speaking of Lesnar, here's the four people I think could end Takers Career:

    BROCK LESNAR
    KURT ANGLE
    CM PUNK
    DANIEL BRYAN DANIELSON

  15. Undertaker vs Triple H (Hell in a Cell) deserves 5 star! The storytelling, psychology, crowd, build everything is there! Meltzer is fu*king insane!

  16. Rating matches is someone's subjective opinion and there is nothing to rant about even if they don't match with your own. Having said that Dave Meltzer still remains the finest critic of professional wrestling (and Bryan remains the funniest).

    ReplyDelete
  17. Why do some people here think a young upstart should end the streak? That's far too risky of an investment. What if the hypothetical upstart goes all Brock Lesnar (ignoring the comeback for a moment) and high-tails it out of the WWE in a year or two? It'd be a total letdown.

Frankly, the WWE should never end the streak. It's become too iconic, if anyone were to end the streak, no matter who it was, they could never make it "live up to the hype."

On a side note, I think both Undertaker/Michaels matches should have been 5 stars. Technically speaking I think they're better than Austin/Hart or Michaels/Ramon (btw, I also consider those 5 star matches). Also, Undertaker/Triple H HiaC should have been 5 stars.

Seriously, those three matches captivated me as much as any match I've ever seen (and I'm counting RoH and Noah matches when I say that). I think sometimes people get a little too stingy when it comes to giving perfect scores in anything.

Just for the heck of it, here are my 5 star Mania matches (chronological order).

    1.Shawn Michaels/Razor Ramon
    2. Bret Hart/Steve Austin
    3. Shawn Michaels/Undertaker
    4: Shawn Michaels/Undertaker 2
    5: Triple H/Undertaker 3

And because this post isn't long enough already, these are the non-Mania WWE matches I'd say are 5 stars.

    1. Shawn Michaels/Undertaker HiaC
    2. John Cena/CM Punk

Kind of an irony that I think so many brilliant matches are relatively recent, and yet everyone keeps saying how much today's WWE sucks...Is there something wrong with me? Or are these just great exceptions?

    1. Austin-Hart is still the greatest match in Mania history. Steamboat-Savage is probably a close second. Come to think of it, Meltzer only rated it ****1/2 stars. Taker/Michaels I is probably the third best match in Mania history.

Or are these just great exceptions?"

Fully agree with you on The Undertaker, The Streak should never end and your ***** list but I'd add a couple more. Here are my ***** WWF/E matches in chronological order:

    1. Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart, WrestleMania X
    2. Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon, WrestleMania X
    3. Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin, WrestleMania 13
    4. Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker, In Your House 18: Badd Blood
    5. Kurt Angle/Chris Benoit vs. Edge/Rey Mysterio, No Mercy 2002
    6. The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels, WrestleMania XXV
    7. The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels, WrestleMania XXVI
    8. John Cena vs. CM Punk, Money in the Bank 2011
    9. The Undertaker vs. Triple H, WrestleMania XXVIII

    1. That is a great list. Glad to know other people agree with me on the seven WWF/E matches I give 5 stars too.

I also greatly enjoy Bret Hart/Owen Hart and the No Mercy 2002 tag match, but personally I'd give them a "very high" 4 3/4 stars. Excellent choices though.

  19. if we think how the management in wwe is thinking,
the only person who could end the streak is non other than...
    .
    .
    John Cena

why? because in mcmahon's POV he's a main-eventer, the top money maker, the star that nobody could beat..

and I'm afraid 'taker will have no choice but to agree with him in the future.

    1. C'mon man, WWE is more than aware of Cena's "mixed reactions." Do you honestly think they'd honestly make him defeat Undertaker at Mania, and make him the most hated man in the company's history? I don't think so.

I can imagine Cena facing Taker at Mania, but I can't see anyone ending the streak. And that's how it should be at this point.

  20. how did Bryan Alvarez rated the Rock vs. Hogan Match from Wrestlemania 18???

  21. Meltzer is obviously biased towards Bret Hart. He refuses to give a Hart match a bad rating. He didnt rate the McMahon/Hart streetfight from WM 26 yet will give a nine second squash a "DUD."
